NetBSD

Following
Todd
Vierlings announcement
to the current-users Mailinglist, the
release process for NetBSD 1.6 has begun. This means not
only that 1.6 has
been branched off the -current CVS tree, but also that daily
snapshots will
soon be available. A list of changes from 1.5 to 1.6 is
available [
here;
a
short announcement including a best-case scenario timetable
is available [
here.

NetBSD
Recent changes/happenings:
* my DSL line remains down, so translation stagnated a bit

* on the other hand, got new people working on a spanish, russian and italian translation of the website

* recently figured out a nasty Java/Jini on NetBSD problem, which led to my first source code commit for NetBSD (note how I applied it to the wrong branch initially - oops)

* Been working more and more on pkgsrc recently

And now:

cd /pub

more beer

Wrote a paper entitled You've got Jail! Or How The CBDTPA Might Outlaw Proper Security Practices for a class I'm taking. Might as well put it online...

CS Masters Thesis Topic Wanted

So I guess I'll be writing my Master's Thesis in CS over the summer -- but I don't have a topic just yet! Would anybody here have some input as to what would be a good topic to cover, something that would (obviously) be helpful to be implemented/extended/researched but at the same time feasibly be covered by one person over a 3-6 months time-frame?

I'm currently rather open to anything, be it file-systems, distributed

computing, network protocols or whatnot.

I would love to incorporate some work on NetBSD into the topic -- currently suggested ideas include Message Queuing and (possibly) Acces Control Lists, but as I said, I'd be open to anything interesting...
