Half a Book

January 16th, 2017

This page
intentionally left blank Since October 2011, I've been claiming to work on a textbook on System Administration. I have made no meaningful progress since the summer of 2013 and have in fact since chosen to void my contract with Wiley & Sons for the publication of the works.

Every couple of months or so, I tell myself that I will finish it. I don't know if I ever will. However, I've spent a lot of time and effort on this project, and now I'm sitting here on half a book that, if I do say so myself, isn't half bad.

So I figured I might as well publish what I have. If nobody finds it interesting, I lose nothing. If somebody finds it useful, then at least my work was not for naught. And if somebody were to give me feedback, suggestions, encouragement, I might even find the motivation to pick up the remaining chapter notes and turn them into another half a book.

Since the Spring semester is about to start, I'll polish the chapters I've finished and will try to publish them one by one as the semester progresses. I'll also push the materials to GitHub to faciliate feedback and corrections (and as just another backup).

Published content so far:

Comments, feedback, complaints, why-didn't-you-justs? Are you a (very patient) publisher willing to motivate and guide me into publishing the final product, whenever that may be? Email me!

(Any further updates will be linked from this page.)
